One of the problems with digital object identifiers DOIs is that they lock the $7bn journal publication industry into the hands of the big players. They are completely meaningless as URLs, to human eyes, and can only be “read” by machines.

Good grief. I’ve been hiding behind my “librarian for languages and literature” title to avoid looking at this stuff. And here I thought MLA was off its rocker… Now it looks like APA won the That’s Insane prize for style manuals this year.
